Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) says Nigeria can achieve its clean energy goals faster if the country combines the right policies, modern technology, and stronger local capacity.
Speaking at the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ annual conference in Lagos, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams said policy reforms will create a stable and attractive environment for investors, while advanced tools like predictive analytics and integrated data systems can make energy production more efficient.
He pointed to the Bonga oil field’s strong performance nearly 20 years after first oil as an example of how technology and smart planning can sustain operations.
Adams noted that over 90% of SNEPCo’s contracts are already handled by Nigerian companies but stressed the need to boost local manufacturing, certification standards, and access to funding. He warned that limited capacity often means projects are split between Nigeria and overseas, increasing costs and delays.
He added that Nigeria’s energy future “will not happen by chance” and urged all stakeholders to work together to deliver affordable, secure, and cleaner energy for the country and the world.
