Angola Ends Oil Deal with Namibia

Angola has called off a planned oil partnership with Namibia’s state-owned Namcor, ending an agreement that would have given the company stakes in three deepwater blocks across Angola’s offshore basins.

The deal had been under scrutiny after it was linked to the 2023 suspension of Namcor’s then–managing director, Immanuel Mulunga, over corruption allegations. While Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Commission later cleared him of criminal intent, he was dismissed from his role in 2024.

Angola’s petroleum minister, Diamantino Azevedo, confirmed the cancellation but gave no further details on the decision. The move is seen as a setback for Namibia’s efforts to expand its oil exploration footprint in the region.
