Electricity DisCos See Revenue Drop by Nearly 5% in June

Revenue collected by Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) fell in June 2025, dropping by N9.46 billion—or 4.93 percent—to N182.11 billion, compared to N191.57 billion in May, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

NERC’s June Commercial Performance Factsheet shows that DisCos billed consumers a total of N237.85 billion for electricity, achieving a collection efficiency of 76.57 percent, up from 73.17 percent in May.

Among the distributors, Eko DisCo, Ikeja Electric, and Abuja DisCo were the top earners, collecting N33.18 billion, N32.66 billion, and N30.11 billion respectively. At the lower end, Yola DisCo, Kaduna Electric, and Jos DisCo recorded the least, with N2.96 billion, N3.62 billion, and N5.71 billion.

James Chijoke, Chairman of the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria, noted that many consumers remain unhappy with service quality, pointing to insufficient metering as a persistent problem. “With more than half of customers not metered, estimated billing continues to cause disputes. This needs urgent attention to ensure fairness,” he said.

Chijoke urged authorities to speed up metering programs and reinforce consumer protection to restore confidence in the electricity sector.
