Why are 10,000 Indians Doing Nigerian Jobs? – Pengassan Demands Action

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has issued a stern warning of a nationwide strike, demanding the repatriation of over 10,000 Indian nationals employed by Sterling Oil.

PENGASSAN accuses the company of violating Nigerian labor laws by hiring expatriates for positions meant for Nigerians, including low and middle-level roles, amid the country’s high unemployment rate.

The union also highlights the company’s illegal practices, such as circumventing expatriate quotas and suppressing workers’ rights.

With growing tensions, PENGASSAN insists on full compliance with Nigerian laws or face a strike that could cripple the country’s oil sector.
