Seadrill Limited has revealed that Sonadrill Holding Ltd, its 50-50 joint venture with Sonangol, has secured two new drilling contracts in Angola.

The West Gemini drillship has been booked by Sonangol Exploração & Produção, S.A. for a project expected to last about 284 days, starting either late 2025 or early 2026.

Meanwhile, the Sonangol Libongos has been awarded work by Azule Energy Angola B.V. for a firm period of 525 days, with options to extend. That campaign is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, directly following its current assignment.

Sonadrill’s fleet includes three ultra-deepwater drillships: the Seadrill-owned West Gemini and two Sonangol-owned units, Sonangol Libongos and Sonangol Quenguela. Seadrill provides operational, technical, and management expertise for the fleet in exchange for management fees.

These latest wins underline Angola’s ongoing push to boost offshore activity as global operators step up exploration and production efforts in the region.
