The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered an illegal crude oil reservoir hidden in a forest in Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The discovery occurred during a joint operation with the Nigeria Army and TANTITA Security Service on Sunday, March 25, 2025, at 2:12 pm.

According to NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, the suspects had fled by the time authorities arrived, and no arrests were made.

The reservoir was found in Obe-Akingboye, an area known for illegal oil activities.

NSCDC Ondo State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, warned those involved in illicit petroleum operations to cease immediately, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting national assets.
