Dangote Refinery Rejects Marketers’ Push for N75 Price Increase

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has said that oil marketers are pressing for a N75 per litre adjustment on petrol and diesel, a move that could send pump prices soaring to nearly N950 and N1,090 respectively in some regions.

The request, according to the refinery, came from the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), which prefers transporting products through coastal logistics instead of collecting them directly from the refinery’s gantry. This method, however, adds N75 per litre in costs — a burden that translates to more than N1.5 trillion annually if pushed to end users.

Dangote Refinery stressed it has no intention of raising its official gantry price or taking on costs that resemble the discredited fuel subsidy model of the past. It maintained that DAPPMAN’s pressure is the main reason behind recent negative campaigns against the company.

Reassuring Nigerians of steady supply, the refinery explained that it keeps about 500 million litres of products in storage monthly and has exported over 3.2 million metric tons of fuel between June and September. It faulted marketers for importing 3.6 million metric tons within the same period, describing the action as harmful dumping against the local industry.

Highlighting its role in stabilizing the economy, the company noted that its operations have supported the government’s reforms, boosted foreign reserves, created jobs, and strengthened Nigeria’s position as a regional refining hub. It reaffirmed its willingness to work closely with regulators while challenging practices it believes undermine the national interest.
