US Construction Giant Bechtel Expands in Australia With Nuclear, Renewables Push

Bechtel, one of the world’s largest engineering and construction firms, is ramping up its presence in Australia and expects the country to become its biggest overseas market within the next year.

The US-based company is taking on major projects tied to the AUKUS nuclear submarine program, large-scale renewable energy developments, and could also play a role in preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Chairman and chief executive Brendan Bechtel said the new projects will add to the company’s already extensive work in Australia, which includes the Western Sydney Airport, Sydney Metro, and major contracts in LNG, mining, and metals.

Bechtel stressed that Australia is a key growth hub as it combines traditional resource industries with rapidly expanding opportunities in defence and clean energy.

Industry experts note that Bechtel’s stronger presence will boost Australia’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure, particularly in energy transition and national security.

With its Australian workforce set to surpass that of any other international market, Bechtel is on track to establish the country as a central hub for its global operations.
