Makinde Names Acting Members for Oyo Electricity Regulatory Board

Governor Seyi Makinde has announced the appointment of acting officials for the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSERC), signaling a push to enhance oversight and expand the state’s electricity market.

The Governor appointed Prof. Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, as Acting Chairman of OYSERC. Other appointees include Mr. Ayanniyi Taiwo as Acting Secretary, Solomon Oyekunle as Acting Technical Member, Abiodun Adedoja as Acting Strategy Member, and Mrs. Omolara Omoremi as Acting Legal Member.

According to Shangodoyin, these appointments aim to lay the groundwork for the commission’s operations, including licensing for electricity generation and distribution, tariff monitoring, consumer protection, and ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.

He added that the commission will focus on opening up Oyo’s electricity market to private sector investment, promoting local power solutions, and strengthening accountability among operators. Substantive appointments will follow the formal passage of the Oyo State Electricity Market Bill into law.

The commission has already engaged with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in Abuja to align regulatory frameworks and ensure smooth market operations, highlighting the state’s commitment to a decentralized and efficient electricity system.

Shangodoyin emphasized that the reforms are intended to improve electricity access, boost service reliability, and encourage investment in embedded and distributed generation projects across the state.
