TotalEnergies SE and its partners have started production at the Lapa Southwest project in Brazil’s Santos Basin, boosting the Lapa field’s output to about 60,000 barrels per day (bpd). The project adds 25,000 bpd by connecting three new wells to the existing floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility.
Nicolas Terraz, president of TotalEnergies’ exploration and production division, said Brazil is a “key growth market” for the company. Last year, the country contributed 184,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day to TotalEnergies’ global production.
The Lapa Southwest project aligns with the company’s strategy to produce low-cost, low-emission oil and supports its goal of growing production by 3% annually through 2030. TotalEnergies holds a 48% stake in the field, Shell owns 27%, and a joint venture of Repsol SA and China Petroleum and Chemical Corp holds 25%.
This launch complements other expansions in the Santos Basin, including the Mero4 project, which is designed to increase the Mero field’s output to 770,000 bpd and provide significant gas production.
