Dangote Refinery has fixed the price of aviation fuel (JetA1) at N1,820 per litre, a move aimed at correcting price speculation and improving transparency in Nigeria’s aviation fuel market.
The refinery disclosed the new rate in a price notice to customers, saying the decision became necessary after market rumours suggested JetA1 was selling for as high as N3,000 per litre.
Airline operators have in recent months complained about the rising cost of aviation fuel, which climbed sharply following escalating tensions in the Middle East. The situation was further compounded by the activities of middlemen and inconsistent pricing across the supply chain.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) clarified that the actual JetA1 market price ranged between N1,960 and N2,800 per litre, countering claims that it had exceeded N3,000.
The development is expected to ease pressure on domestic airlines, some of which had warned of possible flight disruptions or fare increases due to high fuel costs.
Earlier, the Federal Government granted airline operators a 30 percent debt discount as part of efforts to stabilize the aviation sector and prevent operational setbacks linked to fuel expenses.
Analysts say the refinery’s pricing could help restore order in the JetA1 market and reduce speculative pricing influences.
