Lagos electricity Regulator licenses 14 operators

The electricity sector in Lagos has received a fresh push as the state regulator issued operating licences to 14 companies involved in different parts of the power value chain.

The licences were granted by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission during its first stakeholders’ forum held in Ikeja, bringing together operators, investors, consumer groups and other industry players.

Officials said the move is part of wider reforms aimed at building a more structured and efficient electricity market in Lagos State, with a focus on improving service delivery and attracting investment.

At the event, LASERC chief executive Temitope George described the engagement as an important milestone in the state’s electricity development journey. She said the commission is working to create a market that is transparent, consumer-focused and supportive of innovation and clean energy.

She also revealed plans to open zonal offices in Ikorodu, Amuwo Odofin/Badagry, and the Sangotedo/Epe axis to make it easier for residents to access regulatory services and resolve complaints. The offices are expected to begin operations later in the year.

George added that ongoing reforms in the sector are already creating opportunities for new investments, infrastructure growth, and modern energy solutions.

During the forum, senior officials of the commission presented updates on regulatory policies, market performance, and service standards guiding the development of the electricity sector.

The board chairman, Alexander Ogunbiyi, presented licences and permits to the 14 compliant operators, describing it as part of efforts to ensure accountability and strengthen regulation in the evolving electricity market.

The forum also included interactive sessions where stakeholders discussed challenges in the sector and possible solutions for sustainable growth.
