Cooking Gas Price Hits N1,500/kg

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers has warned that the rising cost and irregular supply of cooking gas could lead to scarcity across the country.

The association said cooking gas prices have increased to over N1,500 per kilogram in many locations, while some retailers now sell between N1,600 and N2,000 per kilogram.
According to the marketers, dealers currently pay between N25.2 million and N26.2 million for 20 metric tonnes of LPG, depending on the area.

NALPGAM said the sharp increase is causing hardship for households, food vendors, and small businesses that rely on cooking gas for daily operations. The group also warned that many Nigerians may return to using firewood and charcoal because of the high cost of LPG.

The marketers blamed the situation on supply shortages, high depot prices, logistics challenges, and rising operational costs.

They called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to urgently stabilise supply, reduce distribution bottlenecks, and make cooking gas more affordable for consumers.

The association added that failure to address the crisis could worsen food inflation, lead to job losses, and affect Nigeria’s clean energy goals.
