Abiodun Denies Involvement in Dangote Refinery Relocation

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed claims linking him to the relocation of the project from Ogun State to Lagos, insisting that the decision was taken before he assumed office.

He made the clarification while speaking at the commissioning of a six-kilometre road project in Ijebu-Ode, where he said reports blaming his administration for the refinery’s exit were misleading. According to him, his government made efforts to retain the project, but the outcome had already been determined before he became governor.

Abiodun also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the proposed Deep Sea Port project in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. He said the project remains on track and is expected to position the state as a major maritime hub in Africa, with plans for what he described as one of the longest and deepest ports on the continent.

He added that details of the port development would be made public at the appropriate time.

The governor further disclosed that oil exploration activities have begun in parts of Ogun Waterside, saying the state is progressing toward becoming an oil-producing region.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development across Ijebu-Ode and nearby communities, noting that numerous roads have been completed while others are still under construction as part of efforts to improve connectivity and support economic growth.

Officials at the event commended the administration’s focus on infrastructure and economic projects, while community leaders urged the government to sustain the momentum of development across the state.
