ExxonMobil has announced that the massive Upper Zakum offshore oil field in Abu Dhabi is on track to ramp up production earlier than originally planned.
According to ExxonMobil’s Chief Executive Officer, Darren Woods, the field — developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi’s national oil company and Japan’s Inpex Corporation — currently produces around one million barrels of oil per day.
The partners are working to expand capacity to 1.5 million barrels daily by 2030, but progress on the project suggests that goal could be achieved ahead of schedule.
Upper Zakum is one of the world’s largest offshore oil fields and a key part of Abu Dhabi’s long-term plan to increase crude output and strengthen its position in global energy markets.
Woods noted that ExxonMobil remains committed to supporting the UAE’s energy growth while continuing investments in cleaner and more sustainable energy technologies worldwide.
