The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has approved plans to establish an independent authority to oversee the country’s oil and gas sector, a move aimed at improving coordination and efficiency in the industry.
The announcement was made by Noorulhaq Anwar, Director General of Administrative Affairs, who said the decision was taken by the Administrative Commission. According to him, the new body will bring together eight separate units that have previously operated independently within the oil and gas sector.
He explained that consolidating these entities under a single authority is expected to streamline operations, strengthen oversight, and improve transparency in both production and importation activities. The reform is also intended to reduce duplication of responsibilities and improve coordination among relevant institutions.
Anwar added that the establishment of the authority would create a more organized framework for managing Afghanistan’s energy resources, which he said would be beneficial to the government, private investors, consumers, and the general public.
