ANOH Gas Plant Begins Production at 850mscf/day, Becomes Nigeria’s Largest

Nigeria has officially commissioned its largest gas processing facility — the Assa North-Ohaji South (ANOH) Gas Plant — now delivering an impressive 850 million standard cubic feet (mscf) of gas daily from Assah in Imo State.

The facility, located in the oil-rich Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, is a joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Seplat Energy Plc. It forms a major part of the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s gas potential, reducing flaring, and driving industrial growth.

“This is a bold step toward Nigeria’s energy self-reliance,” said Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State. “The ANOH plant is not only a major infrastructure win for Nigeria, it’s a game-changer for Imo State.”

Commissioned as part of efforts to transform Nigeria into a gas-powered economy, the ANOH Gas Plant is now the largest of its kind in the country and among the most ambitious gas infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The plant’s capacity is expected to power industries, boost domestic gas supply, and strengthen electricity generation across Nigeria. Governor Uzodimma noted that the project would directly benefit the state, particularly the once-restive Ohaji/Egbema area.

“We are witnessing the birth of a new economic hub in the Orashi region,” he added. “This facility will drive job creation, energy access, and massive investment opportunities in the Orashi Special Energy Free Trade Zone.”

The ANOH development underscores Nigeria’s strategic push for cleaner, more sustainable energy while positioning itself as a critical player in the global gas market.

As production ramps up, industry experts and stakeholders are turning their attention to Assah — now poised to become the epicenter of Nigeria’s gas revolution.
