Chevron Advances Development of Cyprus’ Aphrodite Gas Field

Chevron Corporation is moving forward with the development of the Aphrodite offshore gas field in Cyprus by awarding a critical engineering contract to Worley Limited. The agreement covers front-end engineering design (FEED) and procurement services, a key step toward bringing one of the Eastern Mediterranean’s largest gas fields into production.

Chevron, operating the project through its subsidiary Chevron Cyprus, is partnering with Shell and NewMed Energy. The FEED phase will refine technical designs, improve cost estimates, and establish an execution plan, helping the partners prepare for a final investment decision.

Located roughly 160 kilometers south of Limassol in Cyprus’ Block 12, the Aphrodite field spans about 120 square kilometers and contains substantial natural gas reserves. Development of the field is expected to mark Cyprus’ first offshore gas production, with initial output targeted for the early 2030s.

Under the contract, Worley will handle engineering for the floating production unit, subsea infrastructure, export pipelines, and onshore gas facilities. The company will also oversee procurement of essential equipment for both offshore and onshore operations, building on previous technical studies to ensure the project stays on schedule.

Shell, which holds a 35% stake, and NewMed Energy are collaborating closely with Chevron and the Cypriot government to advance the field’s development. Once operational, Aphrodite is expected to strengthen regional energy supply and contribute significantly to Cyprus’ growing natural gas sector.

With FEED work set to finish by the end of 2026, Chevron and its partners aim to progress rapidly toward production, solidifying Aphrodite as a cornerstone of Cyprus’ future energy strategy.
