Cooking Gas Price Stable at ₦1,200 Per Kg in Abuja Despite Increases in Lagos

The cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has remained steady in Abuja at about ₦1,200 per kilogram, even as prices continue to climb in Lagos.

A market check on Monday revealed that vendors in various parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sell LPG between ₦1,200 and ₦1,500 per kilogram, depending on the area. In neighborhoods like Gwarimpa, Dawaki, Dutse, and Kubwa, prices ranged from ₦1,200 to ₦1,400 per kg.

A Gwarimpa gas dealer, Uche Chinedu, said a 12.5kg cylinder currently costs around ₦15,000. “We sell for ₦1,200 per kg here, though some filling stations offer it slightly cheaper at ₦1,090,” he said.

In Lugbe, however, vendors charge as high as ₦1,500 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, prices in Lagos have risen sharply, with residents reporting that LPG now sells between ₦1,700 and ₦2,000 per kg in some areas.

According to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, the recent price hike was caused by temporary supply disruptions following last week’s dispute between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Dangote Refinery.

Ojulari described the increase as an “artificial spike” and assured Nigerians that prices would stabilize soon as supply improves across the country.

LPG prices in Nigeria have fluctuated in recent months due to supply challenges and distribution issues, but authorities maintain that efforts are being made to restore consistency and curb further increases.
