The Dangote Group has reportedly agreed to permit employees at its refinery and petrochemical operations to join the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), sources close to the matter have revealed.
Officials say a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is being prepared for signing, with discussions suggesting a possible two-week timeframe for its implementation.
However, a final agreement has been delayed due to disagreements over the phrasing of the communiqué issued at a meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi. While both parties had reportedly reached consensus on most points, the precise wording of the statement remains a sticking point, stalling the resolution of the ongoing dispute over unionization and related issues.
Industry observers note that this development marks a significant step toward resolving tensions between Dangote’s management and NUPENG, though a complete settlement remains pending the finalization of the communiqué.
