Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, has thrown his weight behind the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for its role in implementing the Federal Government’s policy requiring crude oil and refined products to be sold in naira.
In a letter to the NPA, Dangote applauded the coordination and dedication of the One-Stop-Shop Committee managing the policy rollout. As part of his support, he announced the donation of a new coaster bus to help the committee carry out its daily operations more effectively.
Dangote said the move reflects his company’s commitment to ensuring the success of the directive, which is seen as a major step toward boosting local currency transactions in the oil sector.
Meanwhile, Zacch Adedeji, who heads the technical sub-committee overseeing the policy, also praised the NPA-led team during a recent visit. He described the team’s performance as a key factor in the smooth implementation of the new system and urged them to maintain the momentum.
The government’s directive seeks to promote domestic transactions in the oil sector using the naira, as part of wider economic reforms to strengthen the local currency and reduce dollar dependency.
