The Dangote Refinery has announced a nationwide cut in petrol prices, offering Nigerians some relief amid ongoing disputes in the oil sector.
According to a revised price template released on the company’s official X account, the refinery’s new gantry price remains pegged at N820 per litre, the same figure set in August. However, retail pump prices have been adjusted downward in several states.
In Lagos and other South-West states including Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti, the refinery’s fuel price now stands at N841 per litre, compared to the previous N860. Motorists in Abuja, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Kwara will see an even steeper reduction, with prices dropping from N885 to N851 per litre. The new rates, representing cuts of N19 in the South-West and N34 in Abuja and the South-South, are scheduled to take effect on Monday, September 15.
The company noted that its pricing template only applies directly to MRS and a handful of its official distribution partners, while independent marketers are free to set their own pump prices.
This development comes against the backdrop of rising tension between the refinery and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). The union has accused the company of backtracking on recent agreements and has threatened to resume strike action in response.
Industry analysts say the pricing adjustment could ease public frustration over fuel costs, but warn that looming industrial actions may disrupt supply if disputes are not resolved quickly.
