Dangote Petroleum Refinery has pledged to supply Nigeria with 1.5 billion litres of petrol per month, starting December 2025, in a move aimed at strengthening domestic fuel availability. The supply is equivalent to about 50 million litres daily and is expected to rise to 1.7 billion litres per month (57 million litres daily) from February 2026.
The commitment was communicated in a letter to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) by the refinery’s Chief Executive Officer, David Bird. Dangote Refinery also requested that NMDPRA officials be allowed onsite from December 1 to verify daily production and stock levels, with plans to publish these figures publicly to ensure transparency.
Bird highlighted that delays in vessel clearance have continued to disrupt operations, raising costs and affecting consumers. He called for support in allowing the refinery to import crude oil, feedstocks, and blending components without hindrance, as well as facilitating the lifting of petroleum products by vessel.
The refinery’s pledge comes amid ongoing supply challenges in Nigeria’s downstream sector, which has struggled to meet domestic petrol demand, leading to persistent reliance on imports.
