ExxonMobil has awarded an offshore oil services contract in Nigeria to Weatherford as the company expands its deepwater operations in the country.
The contract was awarded through ExxonMobil’s Nigerian affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria.
Although the value of the deal was not disclosed, Weatherford said it would provide well completion services for deepwater oil wells offshore Nigeria.
Well completion involves preparing oil wells for production after drilling has been completed.
ExxonMobil operates five deepwater oil blocks in Nigeria and is also considering major investments in two large offshore projects that have been delayed for years. The projects are expected to attract investments worth more than $24bn.
The Nigerian contract is part of several new deals secured recently by Weatherford across the global oil and gas industry.
Earlier this month, the company won contracts linked to offshore drilling projects in Guyana and Brazil, including work supporting ExxonMobil’s operations offshore Guyana.
The latest agreement highlights renewed interest in deepwater oil exploration and production as global energy companies continue to invest in offshore projects.
