ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Energean Executives Set to Drive Energy Talks in South Africa

Top industry players from Nigeria and across Africa will be taking center stage at the upcoming African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 in South Africa, with discussions expected to spotlight new investments and the continent’s rising role in global oil and gas markets.

Among the keynote speakers are Jagir Baxi, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil Nigeria; Mathios Rigas, CEO of Energean; and Eric Delattre, Managing Director and Country Chair of TotalEnergies E&P Congo. These leaders are billed to share strategies shaping upstream operations and expanding energy opportunities across the continent.

ExxonMobil is preparing to inject $1.5 billion into Nigeria’s offshore sector, focusing on reviving output at the Usan deepwater field. A final investment decision on the project, carried out with partners TotalEnergies, Chevron, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), is expected before the end of Q3 2025.

Energean, which has grown its reputation in the Mediterranean gas market, is targeting West Africa’s underdeveloped deepwater gas reserves as part of its long-term African expansion. The company says its plans are geared toward advancing energy security and boosting industrial growth in the region.

Meanwhile, TotalEnergies is strengthening its operations in Congo with a $500 million boost to production at the Moho Nord field, the country’s largest oil project. The firm is also pressing ahead with additional exploration and drilling campaigns in the Moho and Marine XX blocks, reinforcing its commitment to deepwater development.

“Africa’s oil and gas industry is no longer on the fringes — it’s becoming central to the global supply chain,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “Investments from companies like ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, and Energean show the confidence international players have in Africa’s energy future.”

AEW 2025, themed Invest in African Energies, is expected to be a major platform for deal-making and dialogue between policymakers, investors, and industry leaders. With Africa’s upstream sector undergoing rapid transformation, the event will serve as a stage for charting strategies to attract investment, foster collaboration, and unlock the continent’s full energy potential.
