The Federal Government has created a new national committee to push Nigeria’s renewable energy and energy efficiency agenda, with the aim of providing cleaner power and driving economic growth.
The body, called the National Committee on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Certification (NCREEIC), was launched in Abuja after the signing of an MoU with key partners.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Geoffrey Nnaji, said the initiative would support affordable energy access, create jobs, and promote industrial growth while protecting the environment. He noted that the committee would focus on research, innovation, collaboration, local content, and setting national standards.
Energy Commission of Nigeria’s Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, said energy efficiency is central to Nigeria’s transition, adding that the new committee would strengthen existing initiatives like appliance testing, audits for public buildings, and awareness campaigns.
National Coordinator of the committee, Chijioke Nwadavid, promised that it would promote cross-sector collaboration and ensure renewable energy projects deliver real impact.
