Fire at Iran’s Largest Refinery Contained, Operations Uninterrupted

A fire that erupted at Iran’s largest oil refinery in Abadan on Saturday has been successfully brought under control, according to officials. The blaze occurred at Unit 70 of the facility, located in the southern province of Khuzestan, and was extinguished through the swift response of emergency and technical crews.

While the fire led to the tragic loss of one worker’s life, refinery authorities confirmed that operations have not been disrupted. Output has continued smoothly, with production shifting to other units to compensate for the affected section.

Preliminary findings from the refinery’s technical team indicate that a pump leak was the likely cause of the fire. However, investigators have found no signs of sabotage or deliberate interference at this stage.

The Abadan Oil Refinery, a vital asset in Iran’s energy infrastructure, processes up to 520,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest of its kind in the country.

The incident adds to a series of industrial accidents reported across Iran in recent months, though officials have repeatedly ruled out links to sabotage in most cases.
