Dangote to Increase Refinery Output from 650,000 to 1.4 Million Barrels Per Day

The Dangote Group has announced plans to boost its refinery capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, a move that will make it the largest refinery in the world when completed.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Sunday, the company’s president, Aliko Dangote, said construction for the expansion would begin immediately. He was joined at the event by businessman and First Bank Chairman, Femi Otedola.

Dangote explained that about 65,000 workers would be employed for the project, with 85 percent of them being Nigerians. He also noted that the refinery’s power generation capacity would rise from 500 megawatts to 1,000 megawatts to support the new output.

According to him, the refinery will begin producing Euro 6 standard fuel, which is cleaner and more environmentally friendly than the current Euro 5 standard.

Dangote further revealed that the refinery would be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026, giving Nigerians an opportunity to invest in the project.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and stated that the expansion would be completed within three years, boosting local jobs and reducing the country’s dependence on fuel imports.
