Hungary Plans Emergency Fuel Stations After Refinery Fire

Hungary is introducing new legislation to prepare for potential fuel shortages following a fire at its only oil refinery. The bill would establish government-regulated “emergency fuel stations” to ensure supply if disruptions occur.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban has reassured the public that fuel availability remains stable, even as authorities continue to assess the impact of the blaze. Hungary, which relies heavily on Russian oil imports, is also seeking an exemption from recent US sanctions on Russian energy to maintain its supply.
