The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has started deducting excess electricity units that were mistakenly credited to some customers due to a system error.
IBEDC said the problem occurred between April and June 2026, when its internal system incorrectly applied the previous electricity tariff to certain customer accounts. As a result, some customers received more units than the amount they paid for.
The company explained that the affected accounts are now being adjusted to recover the additional units. This has led to some customers receiving fewer electricity units when making recent purchases.
IBEDC clarified that the reduction was not caused by a fresh increase in electricity tariffs. It maintained that the Band A tariff remains N209.50 per kilowatt-hour, including Value Added Tax.
Customers who suspect that their accounts were affected have been advised to contact IBEDC’s customer service team and provide their meter number, name and registered phone number for verification.
The electricity distributor apologised for the inconvenience caused by the error and said the adjustment was part of efforts to correct the affected accounts.
