Ikeja Electric Apologises Over Blackouts Caused by Gas Supply Shortage

Electricity distribution company Ikeja Electric has apologised to customers following widespread power outages across parts of its network, blaming the situation on gas supply shortages affecting electricity generation on the national grid.

In a public notice released on Friday, the company acknowledged the inconvenience caused to households and businesses and expressed regret over the disruptions to daily activities.

According to the Disco, the outages are linked to reduced power generation caused by constraints in gas supply to power plants connected to the National Grid. The shortage has resulted in increased load shedding across several feeders within Ikeja Electric’s coverage areas.
The company said stakeholders in the power sector were working to address the generation challenges and stabilise electricity supply across the grid.

Ikeja Electric also assured customers that it was closely monitoring the situation and would continue to provide updates as improvements occur.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Independent System Operator recently disclosed that electricity generation in the country had dropped below the 4,000-megawatt threshold due to persistent gas supply constraints affecting thermal power plants.

The grid operator said national power generation stood at about 3,940 megawatts as of early Thursday, highlighting the continued impact of fuel supply shortages on electricity output.

Ikeja Electric thanked customers for their patience and understanding while efforts continue to restore stable power supply.
