India announces new winner in green ammonia auction

India has declared another winner in its ongoing green hydrogen-based ammonia auction, with Coromandel International securing a fresh contract to supply its fertilizer operations.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) confirmed that renewable developer ACME will deliver 50,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually for the next ten years to Coromandel’s fertilizer plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The supply price has been fixed at 51.89 rupees (about $0.62) per kilogram.

This marks the seventh award in the auction so far, which has consistently drawn aggressive bids, all coming in below 56 rupees per kilogram. The lowest price remains 50.75 rupees per kilogram, offered by Jakson Green for a larger 85,000-tonne-per-year supply to Coromandel’s facility in Kakinada.

By winning multiple contracts, Coromandel has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of India’s first green ammonia tender. The move is expected to support the country’s wider strategy of reducing reliance on fossil-based ammonia in fertilizer production, while cutting carbon emissions from agriculture.

Officials say the auction is a central part of India’s national hydrogen mission, aimed at driving down costs, building scale, and encouraging industry adoption of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
