India, Sweden Upgrade Relations to Strategic Partnership

India and Sweden have agreed to strengthen their diplomatic and economic engagement by upgrading their ties to a Strategic Partnership following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

The agreement marks a new phase in cooperation between both countries, with a strong focus on boosting trade, investment, and innovation-driven collaboration.

Prime Minister Modi described India’s ongoing economic reforms as rapidly advancing and invited Swedish businesses to expand their footprint in key sectors such as manufacturing, clean energy, and green hydrogen. He emphasized that India offers significant opportunities for global companies looking to invest in emerging technologies and sustainable development.

The discussions also highlighted potential cooperation in areas including digital infrastructure, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, deep-tech manufacturing, mobility, urban development, healthcare, and life sciences. Both leaders expressed interest in positioning India as a major global hub for research and development.

The upgraded partnership is expected to deepen economic links and encourage greater participation of Swedish firms in India’s growth sectors, while also opening new avenues for technology exchange and investment between the two nations.
