India Will No Longer Buy Russian Oil – Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that India is likely to stop importing oil from Russia, citing recent developments in global energy trade. Speaking to reporters, Trump remarked that he had received information pointing to India’s possible decision to halt oil purchases from Moscow — a move he called “a good step,” though he admitted he couldn’t yet confirm its accuracy.

“I’ve heard India may no longer be buying oil from Russia. I’m not sure if it’s true, but if it is, that’s a good move,” Trump said in response to a question on U.S. sanctions and shifting global alliances.

This potential shift comes as Indian state-owned refineries reportedly pause Russian oil purchases, largely due to shrinking discounts previously offered by Moscow. With reduced incentives and mounting diplomatic pressure, particularly from Washington, Indian energy firms are said to be turning to alternative suppliers in the Middle East and Africa.

Bloomberg recently reported that several Russian oil tankers have been left idling off the Indian coast, awaiting clearance or alternative buyers — adding further weight to speculation that India is distancing itself from Russian crude.

India’s energy choices are being closely watched, especially as tensions continue over Russia’s war in Ukraine and Western nations tighten sanctions. The United States has long pressured countries like India to scale back cooperation with Russia, and Trump’s latest remarks suggest Washington sees an opportunity to shift global oil dynamics further.

While no official announcement has been made by New Delhi, the market appears to be reacting. Analysts say a full halt in Russian oil imports by India could have ripple effects across global energy pricing and regional diplomacy.
