Iraq exported approximately 4.59 million metric tons of crude oil to China in April 2025, securing the country the fourth spot among China’s top oil suppliers for the month, according to data released by China’s General Administration of Customs on Sunday.
The volume translates to about 29.32 million barrels of crude, underscoring Iraq’s continued role as a key energy partner to Beijing.Russia led the chart with 8.7 million metric tons, followed by Malaysia with 7.95 million, and Saudi Arabia with 5.53 million.
“This level of export highlights Iraq’s strategic role in China’s energy security and growing bilateral trade ties,” a source familiar with the oil export data told Shafaq News.Energy experts note that despite rising global competition, Iraq remains a consistent supplier due to its long-term contracts and strong presence in Asia’s oil markets.
“Iraq has always been a reliable partner for China, and these numbers reflect ongoing mutual trust and strategic cooperation,” the source added.
China has steadily deepened its footprint in Iraq’s economy, with major infrastructure investments and partnerships, including agreements to build schools and develop oil fields.
