Japan’s top power generator, JERA, has signed its first long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) export agreement with India’s Torrent Power. Starting in 2027, JERA will deliver four LNG cargoes annually for ten years to support Torrent Power’s 2,730-megawatt generation capacity.
The LNG will also serve households, small industries, and the transport sector. The deal strategically leverages seasonal energy demand differences: Japan’s lower-demand months will supply India’s high-demand summer periods.
JERA, a joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power, aims to expand its LNG portfolio across Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S., building resilience against market volatility.
