In a significant move toward sustainable economic development, Kano State has inked major investment agreements with two renewable energy firms, positioning the state as a future leader in clean power for West Africa.
The partnerships were finalized with Tricell Solar Solutions and IRS Green Energy Limited at the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NERIF) in Abuja. The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) will provide technical and coordination support for the projects.
A key official representing Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced that the deals are a cornerstone of the state’s strategy to increase access to affordable clean energy, stimulate local industry, and generate employment.
The scale of the investment is substantial. IRS Green Energy Limited is set to build a solar panel manufacturing facility capable of producing 600 megawatts (MW) of panels annually. In a parallel development, Tricell Solar Solutions will establish a similar plant with a 500MW yearly output.
This dual investment is expected to transform Kano into a central player in renewable energy production and environmentally-focused manufacturing.
The forum was inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The Chief Executive of the REA, Abba Aliyu, used the occasion to reiterate the agency’s dedication to collaborating with state governments. He emphasized that such partnerships are vital for maintaining policy stability, building investor trust, and ensuring coordinated national progress in the renewable energy sector.
The Kano State government has extended its gratitude to the REA and its private partners, promising a supportive and conducive environment to ensure the successful realization of these transformative projects. This initiative marks a decisive step in building a legacy of sustainable progress and economic prosperity for the state.
