KEDCO Partners with J-Marine to Launch 100MW Solar Project in Kaduna

Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with J-Marine Logistics Limited to develop a 100 megawatt (MW) solar energy project equipped with an integrated battery energy storage system (BESS).

At the signing event on Friday, KEDCO chairman Aminu Suleiman described the initiative as “a bold step in addressing the power supply challenges in our region” and said it will “lay the foundation for inclusive economic growth and development.”

Suleiman emphasized that the project will primarily target industrial customers, noting, “Our primary focus will be where we have a return of the investment or wherever the return of the investment is guaranteed.”

He added, “Thank our partners, J-Marine Logistics, for sharing in our commitment to powering communities and transforming lives. Your collaboration brings cleaner energy, enhances grid stability, and boosts industrial productivity.”

Mohammed Shafiq, chairman of J-Marine Logistics, revealed plans to provide 100MW of solar panels to Kaduna and neighboring states. He also said the company aims to produce solar panels locally in Kaduna with an annual capacity of up to 500 megawatts.

Shafiq further noted, “We can provide as many electric meters as needed to help KEDCO improve revenue collection and control,” and that the company is prepared to bring power plants to Kaduna and nearby regions.

This partnership marks a key milestone towards sustainable and reliable energy supply across KEDCO’s franchise areas, including Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna.
