Libya Announces New Oil Discovery in Ghaddams Basin

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has reported a fresh oil discovery in the Ghaddams Basin, adding momentum to the country’s exploration activity.

In a statement released this week, the NOC said the Arabian Gulf Oil Company successfully drilled the Al-Beer H1-MN4 well, which tested at about 4,675 barrels of crude oil per day and nearly two million cubic feet of natural gas. The corporation noted that the prospect is fully owned by the NOC.

The update follows another announcement in late October, when the NOC confirmed a separate discovery in the Sirte Basin. That well, drilled by OMV in Block 106/4, recorded more than 4,200 barrels per day during production tests, with gas output expected to exceed 2.6 million cubic feet per day. OMV estimates the site holds 15–42 million barrels of recoverable resources.

According to OMV, the Sirte Basin site lies close to existing infrastructure, which could allow the company and the NOC to move toward development more quickly while managing costs and reducing environmental impact.

The series of discoveries comes as the NOC continues marking key milestones in Libya’s energy history. Late last month, the corporation celebrated the 64th anniversary of the country’s first crude export shipment.

The NOC says it remains focused on responsibly expanding Libya’s production capacity and supporting long-term national growth.
