Nigeria Hits 96% of OPEC Production Target in August – NUPRC

Nigeria’s oil output in August 2025 showed strong recovery signs as the country achieved 96 per cent of its OPEC production quota, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Data released by the Commission revealed that total daily production of crude oil and condensates averaged 1.63 million barrels per day (bpd), marking an improvement compared with 1.58 million bpd recorded in the same month of 2024.

Of this volume, crude oil accounted for 1.43 million bpd — a 5.47 per cent rise year-on-year — while condensates contributed 197,229 bpd, slightly lower than the 220,435 bpd achieved last year.

NUPRC explained that the production levels nearly matched Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million bpd, demonstrating the sector’s resilience despite operational challenges. However, on a month-to-month comparison, overall output dipped by 4.7 per cent from July’s 1.71 million bpd, largely due to an unexpected one-day maintenance shutdown at a facility.

In terms of terminal performance, Forcados led the pack in August, producing a combined 8.99 million barrels of crude and condensates. Bonny Terminal followed with 6.26 million barrels, while Qua Iboe and Escravos terminals delivered 4.99 million and 4.18 million barrels respectively.

Industry observers note that the improved year-on-year figures reflect gradual stability in Nigeria’s upstream operations, while the near-compliance with OPEC targets could strengthen the country’s standing within the global oil market.
