The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) says it has uncovered a deliberate effort to damage its reputation and disrupt its reform process.
In a statement released on Friday, the company claimed that a group of individuals — including both insiders and external actors — are engaged in a campaign of misinformation targeting its leadership. NNPC described the actions as a coordinated plot designed to spread false narratives, mislead the public, and distract from the company’s transformation efforts.
The management said those behind the campaign are threatened by the push for accountability, transparency, and institutional reform, which align with the current administration’s goals. According to NNPC, the tactics involve publishing false reports and promoting damaging content to weaken public trust and discourage staff.
Despite expecting more of such attacks in the near future, NNPC stated it remains committed to its mission and will not be derailed by smear tactics. It called on employees, stakeholders, and Nigerians to stay focused and support the ongoing reforms, promising that the transformation of the national oil company will continue regardless of opposition.
