NUPENG Calls Off Strike After Agreement With Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has ended its strike action following a breakthrough in talks with Dangote Refinery.

The dispute, which centered on workers’ rights to unionize and other unresolved matters, was settled during a high-level meeting convened on Tuesday at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja.

Union leaders and refinery management agreed on terms that paved the way for industrial peace, leading to the suspension of the strike that had threatened fuel supply stability.

The DSS stepped in to mediate after tensions rose last week, ensuring both parties reached a compromise. Details of the agreement were not fully disclosed, but sources confirmed that unionization concerns were central to the discussions.

With the truce, operations at the refinery are expected to normalize, easing concerns of possible disruptions in the oil and gas sector.
