Oil Workers Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Sterling Oil Expatriate Quota Breach

Oil Gas and Energy Journal

PENGASSAN has threatened a nationwide strike over the violation of Nigeria’s expatriate quota laws by Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO).

The union accused SEEPCO of employing over 10,000 Indian workers for roles reserved for Nigerians, violating local content regulations.

Despite previous attempts to resolve the issue, PENGASSAN claims SEEPCO continues to disregard the law and has also engaged in anti-labor practices.

The union has demanded the repatriation of foreign workers and reinstatement of terminated Nigerian employees, warning of a shutdown of the country’s oil sector if their demands are not met.
