OPEC Maintains Nigeria’s Oil Production Quota at 1.5 Million Barrels Per Day for 2026

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has decided to maintain Nigeria’s oil production quota at 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) through December 2026. The decision was made during the 40th OPEC and non-OPEC ministerial meeting, reaffirming the country’s current production level under the existing cooperation agreement.

OPEC stated that the quota will remain under the supervision of the Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC), which continues to assess global oil market conditions to ensure stability among member countries.

The cartel also indicated plans to prepare for 2027 by developing a mechanism to determine each member’s maximum sustainable production capacity. This system is expected to guide the allocation of future quotas and help balance supply and demand in the global oil market.

Meanwhile, within the broader OPEC+ alliance — which includes OPEC members and allied non-OPEC producers — some countries have opted for voluntary production adjustments. Eight members plan to pause further output increases in the first quarter of 2026, although a modest increase of 137,000 bpd is projected for December 2025.
