Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged the South-West region of Nigeria to adopt renewable energy solutions to tackle energy poverty and climate change.
Speaking in Osogbo at the South-West Post-Conference Stakeholders’ Roundtable on Renewable Energy, Adeleke, represented by his deputy Kola Adewusi, emphasized the urgent need for sustainable power. “Climate change is no longer a distant threat but a pressing daily reality,” he said. “In this region, richly endowed with sunlight, wind, and innovation, it is deeply concerning that many communities still remain in darkness.”
Adeleke revealed plans to launch the Draft Osun State Renewable Energy Policy, designed to create a robust framework for the region’s energy transition. He also announced the unveiling of the Climate-Smart Investment Portfolio to attract capital for renewable projects.
Highlighting a practical initiative, he said, “We are proud to introduce the IMOLE Solar Lantern Project. ‘One Child, One Lantern’ is our promise. Every child deserves light to study, dream, and grow, regardless of location or background.”
Professor Chinwe Obuaku, Lead Technical Consultant on Climate Change to the governor, described the roundtable as a critical forum for dialogue and action. “We must ask: What next? How do we ensure national policies become tangible instruments for clean energy access and inclusive growth?”
Governor Adeleke’s call signals a bold step toward clean, sustainable energy for Nigeria’s South-West states.
