Households across Nigeria are seeing a small relief as the price of cooking gas records a slight decrease. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that the average cost of a 12.5-kilogram cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dropped to ₦20,609.48 in July 2025, down from ₦21,010.56 in June—a 1.19% monthly decrease.
Despite this small decline, prices remain significantly higher than a year ago, with the cost rising 44.51% compared to ₦14,261.57 in July 2024.
Price differences also vary across states. Imo, Delta, and Rivers States recorded the highest LPG prices, while Kebbi, Nasarawa, and Kwara States offered the lowest. In Abuja, the average price for a 12.5 kg cylinder stood at around ₦15,000 as of September 1.
The NBS report reflects ongoing fluctuations in the supply and distribution of cooking gas, which continue to affect households nationwide. Consumers are hoping that the slight dip in prices signals a trend toward more affordable LPG in the coming months.
