Nigeria’s electricity supply could face temporary strain as Seplat Energy Plc carries out scheduled maintenance on its gas production facilities from February 12 to 15, 2026, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced.
Seplat, a joint venture partner of NNPC and a key gas supplier to the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network, will conduct the exercise as part of routine safety checks and asset integrity protocols.
According to NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the maintenance is aimed at ensuring the reliability and safe operation of critical gas infrastructure. “Periodic maintenance like this is essential to maintain system performance, strengthen operational resilience, and reduce the risk of unplanned outages,” the statement said.
During the four-day period, gas supply into the NGIC network is expected to drop, which may affect some power generation companies that rely on Seplat’s supply.
NNPC said it is working closely with Seplat to complete the maintenance safely and on schedule, while NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) is engaging alternative suppliers to bridge potential gaps and maintain stability.
Full gas supply is expected to resume promptly after the maintenance, allowing affected power plants to return to normal operations.
The announcement comes shortly after NNPC unveiled its Gas Master Plan 2026, designed to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security, support industrialisation, and guide coordinated gas sector development over the next decade.
