TotalEnergies has expanded its renewable energy partnership with investment firm KKR in the United States through a $1.2 billion portfolio deal that adds 700 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity.
The French energy company announced the expansion on Monday, October 12, saying the transaction covers three large-scale solar projects located in Texas and Ohio.
The additional assets will increase the joint venture’s portfolio from 1.4 gigawatts (GW) to 2.1GW, strengthening the partners’ presence in the US renewable energy market.
The three solar projects are expected to begin commercial operations by the first quarter of 2027.
TotalEnergies said electricity generated by the facilities has already been contracted to third-party buyers or will be marketed by the company.
The company will also retain responsibility for operating the solar assets after the transaction is completed, which is expected before the end of 2026.
The expansion builds on the partnership established by TotalEnergies and KKR in 2025 to develop their renewable energy investments in the United States.
The deal highlights TotalEnergies’ continued investment in solar power as energy companies expand their renewable energy portfolios and seek to diversify electricity generation sources.
For KKR, the expanded partnership increases its exposure to utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure, while TotalEnergies maintains an operational role and access to additional solar generation capacity.
The transaction is expected to strengthen the partners’ ability to supply electricity to third-party customers as demand for renewable power continues to shape investment in the US energy sector.
