Türkiye and Angola are working to boost cooperation in energy and trade, with a strong focus on the oil and gas sectors. Türkiye’s Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced plans for collaboration with Angola’s state oil company, Sonangol, and the country’s oil and gas regulatory agency.
As part of these efforts, representatives from Turkish Petroleum and a Turkish mining company are expected to visit Angola later this month to explore potential partnerships.
Bayraktar met with Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, during the third Türkiye-Angola Joint Economic Commission session. Their discussions covered not just energy, but also agriculture, education, transport, and investment.
The two countries are looking to expand trade in crude oil and refined petroleum products through cooperation between Turkish Petroleum International Company (TPIC) and Sonangol. Bayraktar also highlighted other promising sectors for collaboration, including mining, textiles, flour milling, defense, waste management, and retail. He urged Turkish companies to invest in Angola, emphasizing the goal of raising bilateral trade to $500 million from $126 million last year.
He described the joint commission meeting as a significant step forward and said the next session will take place in Angola, where progress on their shared goals will be closely monitored.
Minister Azevedo voiced Angola’s interest in strengthening ties, praising Türkiye’s technical expertise and private sector as valuable partners for advancing Angola’s development. He encouraged Turkish businesses to pursue opportunities in Angola’s growing sectors.
