UAE Energy Minister Cautions OPEC+ on Rising Oil Demand

With global oil demand on the rise, the United Arab Emirates is urging OPEC+ to stay cautious and prioritize long-term market balance, according to the country’s energy minister.

Speaking at a forum in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, UAE Energy Minister Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei said the oil-producing alliance is doing its best to support the market but warned that more action may be needed as demand picks up.

“This group, that is OPEC+, I would say is doing its best to balance the market and ensure that we have enough investments in the supply,” Al Mazrouei said when asked about output plans for July.

“Rest assured, this group is doing its best. But it is not enough only this group — we need the help of others, and we need to be mindful of the demand.”OPEC+, which includes the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and partners like Russia, has gradually been rolling back its supply cuts.

The group agreed to increase output more than expected for May and June, and a full ministerial meeting is set for Wednesday to decide on the next steps.

“Demand is picking up, and the market is going to surprise us if we’re not investing in it,” Al Mazrouei warned.

OPEC+ has implemented several layers of output cuts since 2022 to stabilize prices, but recent signals suggest the alliance is preparing to ramp up production in response to growing consumption.
